human rights.. or is it?

few weeks ago i covered this court proceeding. a father was charged with three counts of incests with his own daughter. the beast did the henious acts while his wife, the mother, was out to a kenduri or to the clinic.

apparently while all these sexual harrasments happened, the wife was eight months pregnant with their latest child.

the father, being the beast he is, did the most unthinkable and inhumane act by betraying the trusts and love his child has towards him.

after about nine witnesses gave statements, including the victim, the father decided he wanted to confess to the rapes. and so he did.

then the interesting event happened. he was brought up to the court that afternoon for the decision. it was in puan hasbi's court.

puan has just finished sentencing the man to 23 years of prisonment for each of the three counts and 10 stroke of rotan for each offence too and was busy with the details, when the man, i guess, fearing the rotan (it would be 30 rotans altogether), climbed out of the 'kandang' and dashed towards the side door.

i remembered nita from sinar harian shouted at him and i too screamed at him, totally forgotten that the court was still in session and puan was still at her bench, talking to the app.

the convicted rapist struggled to open the side door, which was locked from the inside, before he managed to get out and jumped off the corridor and dash out to the constructions site at the back of the court complex.

all these happened in split seconds, even the court policemen were stunned! then the mad rush out, i managed to bow to the judge, not knowing whether she realised it or not, and made my way to the corridor.

by then, one plainclothed policeman was already shouted 'tangkap', 'tangkap', 'tangkap', instructing the contract workers at the site to apprehend the convited rapist.

all this happened in few minutes and after he was apprehended, he was handed to the policemen.

sometime, i just wonder... why can't we use some sort of electronic device to keep track of these sexual offenders. it still shudderes me whenever people talk about people like ismail kerbau, the nation well known sexual offender.

in the case i mentioned above, the father has past conviction. a molest charge and apparently he moved up one notch to rape. unlike other kind of offences, sexual offences are crime that is so frequently repeated, some even did it right after they were dischared from prison.

some might see the act of putting electronic devices on someone's ankle as inhuman, but how about those victims who has to go through nightmares for the rest of their lives? or the would be victims who doen'st even know what's coming til its too late?

maybe we should start see everything in bigger picture rather than fight for human rights that is not beneficials for people at large, but only serve the purpose of beasts like those rapists.

a heartwarming piece. our politicians and so called leaders should learn from this or get it here for better quality.

this is the least i can do for my one and only nation/country, MALAYSIA!

although the leaders sometimes made such moronic decisions and pushed it to us, like the fact children by Malaysian women who got married with foreigners would not gets his/her mothers nationality, if she gave birth to those children while abroad, which to me, is a blantlant disregard to MALAYSIAN women, which is giving an impression that MALAYSIAN women is second class citizen when it was MALAYSIAN women who go out in throng to vote for the government that we have today.

they are the ones who put those leaders in office, yet they still denied some rights in their own birth place. i just hope that MALAYSIAN women would be given back their rights and treated as equal, in the future.

the my newspaper reported the mother is worried and been dodging reporters' efforts to get her comment and someone who claimed is quite close to the family wanted to look for her and bring her back to her family. read more here

zaharah othman, the group's correspondent in uk wrote a story about her encounter with sufiah two years ago here, and here, this one is an interview done by telegraph with her ex-husband. and this one done by daily mail here.

========================================================

remember the child genius, sufiah yusuf, who won a place in oxford when she was 13? well, it's all over the web and uk, i think, the allaged news that she is now making a living as a hooker or prostitute or 'working girl' whichever slang you may think fits.

you can read the whole story via this link : here but i must warn you, the pictures included with the article by keith gladdis are quite explicit, though i think one of the pic is not hers.

if this is true, and the writer/reporter is not making wild accusation (i'm not familiar with the newspaper, so i can't say for sure it's a reputable source, but news of the world is quite popular newspaper i think) i think it's quite sad and a lost to many, not just the family, but also to women all over the world, this child who was at one time, seen as an idol, is now living in some apartment in manchester selling her body for 130 pounds.

i'm still seeking conformation with a friend who is studying in uk, perhaps she heard something and can verify whether this is true.

our local newspaper also have the same stuff printed today.

getting onto the right track

wow! it has been more than a year since the last time i ever post something on this other blog.

i've been busy with work, even my primary blog over in yahoo! had suffered tremendously.

many things happened during the absence. met someone, conned by that particular someone, end the relationship, still searching, and after i had enough with men, met not just one, but three potential, which in the end, just hopeless blokes who broke my heart in little pieces.

my renewed resolution this year (yeah, i know, has been almost four months now!) is not to search, but just simply lead my life as normal as i can be. i think it's better for me to be like a flower, prim and proper, while the beautiful butterfly makes its way to me.

ah, i wish life can be that simple. the truth is, i'm so afraid that every new relationship will lead to disaster. every new man i bumped into will hurt me more than the last one.

i'm so grateful, though, at the time of chaos, i still have friends who are willing to be the shoulder to cry on, to lend their ears to listen to my woes, as if i'm the only person in this whole world that have some serious problem with men.

things changed so fast these days, i just don't have time to pause and think. i better run or risk to be left behind. wish me luck in this journey.

traitor!

i was supposed to put this up last thursday, when the bread is still warm from the oven, so to speak. but i've decided not to because i wouldn't know what i would write after that no so nice talks with a lawyer.

i was doing court on thursday and there were an environmental case in the session court. there is one multinational company operating in shah alam was brought to the court after they let effluents into the monsoon drain. the content of the effluents were way above the approved level when the company was surprised with a visit from jabatan alam sekitar's officers.

the lawyer told the court that on the day of the incident, the main blower and the backup blower at the treatment plant located in the factory broke down thus making it not properly working to treat the byproduct.

he claimed, after the visit, the management tried their level best to undone the damage and they even sent a sample to jas to see whather it will cause serious damage to people at large.

then the lawyer said, jas told them the effluent is damaging to the aquatic habitats but not human being. and the way he said it as if, the effluent is not that damaging because it does not cause harm to human being.

i was appalled because the fact is many heavy metals like nickel and chromium cannot be treated when it goes to our normal water treatment plant. our water treatment plant operated in malaysia does not support such a complicated mechinary or system to treat raw water because it is expensive. anyway, what's better is to teach people not to pollute that to treat polluted water.

but his comment does not ends there. after the judge made the court stands down to write her decision, my friends and i were talking with the dpp when she asked the lawyer to join us. he casullay came up to us and starts making comments. he said yeah well, you do your job and write the story and they will do their job and pull their investments from our country. i was like ' what the freaking hell you are talking about', of course i didn't said it out loud but it showed clearly on my face because he didn't dare look at us.

i said well this is an environmental issue. the pollutants cannot be treated at the water treatment plant. then he said, well, you have to think about the investments about those people who would loose their jobs.

i just couldn't take that any longer. to me any multinational company should not treat this country of mine in any way they wish, polluting the environment when they can't even think of doing it in their own countries. japan for example, is very strict on environmental issues, the law suits on environmental breach can cost millions. that is why many companies in such countries like to come to malaysia because our own law is so lax in enforcement and the penalty is so little.

the company that was dragged to the court is not alien to the charge, either. it was charged in the past for the same offence, but that time (i don't know what happened) they got away with only a tap on their wrist. the offence can be punishable with fine of not more than rm100,000 and jail terms. but the company only gets rm7,000 at that time.

to me, even the workers are traitors. how can you let this happened. maybe they think, well, it;s not dumped on my backyard, so why should i care. but when the water treatment plant failed to treat contaminated water, you will start pointing fingers.

and how can you sleep in the night when someone fall sick after they ate fishes that has been contaminated. if we ourselves are not loyal and respectful to our own country, why should the foreigners.

this mentality should be eradicate or we will end up loosing our own beautiful country.

well, hell breaks loose if you ask me. so need not comment on this, thus joining the whole bandwagon, critisising, chiding, commenting, voicing their pledges to both sides.

apparently we are in yet another controversy since the last one. the question is, are we going to remember 2006 as controversy year? it seems it is.

next week i'm going to take a week leave and stay at home (stay at home it seems the best way to unwind). unlike the rest of the population who would rather spend their much needed leaves going around the world vacationing, i think the best way to unwind (and the cheapest too) is to stay at home, waiting for my liltle 'uns comes home (my nephews, so don't get me wrong eh).

but ofcourse those who know me, anticipated i will be busy, still with trips to galleries and movies plus lunches with friends. and the most important thing is, i will spend the whole weekend in calm by refusing to read and watch the idiot box.

p/s i missed him, so much. but how can i tell him that i miss him so bad it hurts?

this is my dad's lily. and the plant is huge, it's almost as the height as myself and i'm no small woman.

this and some other plants that my parents planted around the house including lots of orchis, roses, fruits trees like mangoes, kuinin, ciku, jambu, dragonfruits, emong other.

my parents is so in love with their plants. i still remember my mum used to tell me that when they still lives in penggawa barat barrack back in the 70s, they used to plant lots of orchids and roses.

as my dad was a navy, each time he comes back from sailing, he would bring empty bottles of liquors that was consumed by his suporiors and put some water in it, let it overnight before using it to water the plants. the effect, voila the orchids and roses blooms like crazy or rather drunk!

now when they are staying in kampung, they have all the land they wanted to plant trees and flowers. ofcourse no more empty bottles of hard liquor, but it still blooms when time comes.

and once in a while whenever i comes back for holiday, the effects of these trees are calming, though they are still in the early stage, not yet giving shades to the overall hot environment.

as if time stood still with no busy roads, traffic jams or loud noise that has been the heartbeat of kl and shah alam.

although jitra is my adopted kampung (i was born in jb, brought up in jasin and further my study in penang), but perhaps it's not too bad to give it a try.

another boring day in the court, another witness. today, my life is pretty boring. even what the witness has testified are boring. that is what you get when the victim is a man, the accused is also a man. no sex stories no excitement.

funny, as even at this age, sex still sell.

anyway, as boring my life today, i can't help noticing some missing links in the witnesses' stories. two days ago a witness didn't mention that there were other people with her and her children prior to the snatch theft incident way back in 2004. but today when the police officer's taking the stand today, the story somehow differ.

well it bound to be, really, i'm not saying the first witness lied, but more like miscommunications, lack command of language. in short, she just couldn't understand what the lawyer and the dpp are trying to say. and in the end her trail of thoughts just snapped.

i think that is the case, every time. witnesses just could understand what the legal officers are trying to say. and in the end, they just couldn't say what they are supposed to say. to make matters worst, some lawyers just have minimal command of bahasa melayu or even the witnesses. in the end, some things were not said properly, some lawyers gets tounge lashing, some witnesses cried or confused, and some dpp just gets frustrated.

wet and rainy morning

yep, it was wet and rainy morning, today and the trafic was slow (snail slow mind you) as everybody is trying to get to work. when i heard the weather forecast this morning while ironing my clothes, i was, like duh! well, i can see it is raining outside without having some people who were stuck in the studio to tell me that.

i mean, weather forecast is supposed to be before the actual thing happened isn't it? what's the use of the forecast if the thing is actually happening outside of your home right when you are listening to the forecast?

anyway, lazy as i am, and knowing i will be made waiting for some minister yet again this morning, i drove to work. and as anticipated, the traffic was slow. as i was taking a turn near puchong intan, i saw something was sticking on the boot of a car in front of mine. and i was, whoa, pity that guy, he has to fork out some money to take care the damage, whaever that thing did to his car.

then i saw it, it was a soaking wet and unfit for reading, newspaper! maybe in the rush of getting to work in time, the poor chap forgot about his newspaper and drove off with is taking a soak in the shower.

i bet by the time he arrived in his office, the newspaper is only fit to be chucked in the bin.

that is why you need the forecast before it rains.
